Valley, Nebraska, modernizes permitting and inspections for faster build times and happier contractors and home buyers.

OVERVIEW

The City of Valley, Nebraska, faced challenges in managing its construction permitting and inspection processes. Valley implemented SmartGov for its digital permit submissions, automated compliance tracking, and real-time inspection results — creating a proactive permitting process that positions the city for more efficient building timelines and fewer logistical delays. In turn, citizens are getting their building needs met quicker and up to code, directly benefiting the community’s booming housing market.

At 9:00 am PeopleService shut the water off down Gardiner and West Streets to tie into the new main. This should only affect the people west of West Street on Gardiner. It might affect people north of Gardiner to West Valley Street. There will be another update when the water is turned back on. We appreciate your patience.

Subject: Water Main Break 

I am writing to provide an update regarding the recent water main work on Platte and Valley Streets. Vrba Construction completed the connection work yesterday, and the main was reactivated around 4 PM. Unfortunately, a break occurred shortly after on the east side of the railroad tracks along Valley Street, resulting in a service outage for several residents in the area.  We are collaborating with the City Engineer and PeopleService to restore service as quickly as possible. 

Homes in the affected area will experience an extended delay in the restoration of water services. Measures are being implemented to help make this time a bit more bearable. For the latest developments, updates will be provided on the City of Valley's website and Facebook page.

Please see the map for coverage area.  This is also affecting Flat Water - water is off until further notice. The water will be off starting at 11am on 07/14/2025 for an unknown period of time.  We will notify everyone when the water is back on.  We appreciate your patience!

WATER IS BACK ON!

After coordination, beginning Thursday, July 10th, the intersection of Valley Street and Platte Street will be closed due to water main construction along Platte Street. No access will be allowed for through traffic at Valley Street and Platte Street.  Residents are advised to use W Meigs Street and 288th Street as detours. Caution is advised throughout the construction zone. We appreciate your patience throughout the project.

The City’s Contractor, 2 The T Construction, is set to begin concrete pavement construction in along Park Ave between the park entrance and Whittingham Street on Wednesday, July 9th. The contractor will remove the existing gravel surface, prepare a new subgrade, and construct new concrete pavement. Construction is expected to last 3 to 4 weeks, weather permitting.

Access to adjacent homes will be restricted during certain phases of construction. Individual notices will be sent out to affected residents at the appropriate time during the project. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during the project.

PROJECT UPDATE:

The City’s Contractor, Vrba Construction, is set to begin construction on new water main pipe along Platte Street between Valley Street and Gardiner Street on Monday, July 7th. The contractor will install new water main pipe, make connections to existing pipes, and connection existing residential water services to the new system. Construction is expected to last one week.
 

Access to homes will be restricted during time of construction. A full street closure will be enacted on Platte Street and limited access will occur on connecting streets during certain times of construction. Residents are advised to use street parking on adjacent streets and use caution throughout the construction zones as utility trenches will be dug and open throughout the construction process. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during the project.

Water has been restored!!

Beginning at 8am on Tuesday, 07/01/2025, water service will be off between W. VALLEY ST - W. WARING ST; WEST ST - S. LAKEWOOD ST; This will also include the park for the water main replacement.  Work may take up to 8 hours to complete.  We appreciate your patience and understanding while we continue to make improvements!
