9th Valley Veterans BBQ Competition

The 9th Valley Veterans BBQ Competition will be held on Friday, May 28th and Saturday May 29th, 2021. We are expecting nearly 50 professional barbecue teams to converge on Valley’s Spruce street to compete for $12,500 in prize money. Friday evening there will be a variety of food vendors located at second and spruce streets and they will be ready to serve you starting at 5:30 pm. This event is a fundraiser for the Valley Veterans groups so a free will donation will be collected at the entrances to the beer garden and donated to the Veterans.  We will also be selling raffle tickets for a Green Mountain Grills Davy Crockett pellet grill/smoker with all of those proceeds going to the Veterans.  The Spruce Street Tavern will be hosting a beer garden and street dance on Spruce street.  Beer garden will open at 5:30 and the dance will run from 8:00 pm until midnight on Friday the 28th.

During the night or early morning hours Saturday, the teams will fire up their pits in preparation to cook their entries for the actual competition. They will turn in their chicken entry at 12:00 noon, pork ribs at 12:30 pm, pork entry at 1:00 pm and beef brisket at 1:30 pm. These entries will be judged by Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) certified judges as they are turned in and an awards ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial Park at 3:30 pm.   The Pancake man will be flipping pancakes in the Veterans Club on Saturday morning starting at 7:30 am and serving until 10:30.   This will be a fundraiser for the DC West High School Cheerleaders and they will be able to deliver your order right to your spot in the competition area.

Something new to the event this year is the Platte River Challenge.    In conjunction with the Allmand Central Plains Ribfest, (June 19th & 20th, 2021) we are offering additional cash prizes to teams that participate in both the 9th Valley Veterans BBQ Competition in Valley and the Allmand Central Plains Ribfest competition in Holdrege.   There's no additional entry fee to participate in the challenge and you will be eligible for additional prize money in two of the four KCBS Master Series categories as well as an Overall prize payout and trophy to be awarded on June 21, 2021 in Holdrege.  More details will be provided but all you need to do is register and participate in both of the competitions.
